Dreaming of My Dream House

Good morning Zomblets,

It's Monday and I'd rather be at home. I'm sure most of you feel the same way so I am going to do a little 'home' montage. This is pretty much inspiration for my dream house. I hope at least some of it comes true!

I would love to live in a victorian house. I used to live in Santa Cruz where there are so many gorgeous victorians but I never got the chance. I also really want a front porch, a sun room, chickens, bees, an amazing closet and a spectacular garden.

Nesting: Cute Stuff For Your Home

I'm feeling nesty again and wanting to buy things that I don't need to decorate my dream house which I don't live in. It is fun to dream though and who knows maybe some of you out there actually have a space of your own to decorate!

I love wrought iron chairs! Aren't these fun? May favorite items for a home are wrought iron, retro appliances, owls, wild prints, cheery colors and things made from wood.

African Butterflies!

Dear Zombies,

I am obsessed with this fabric! Where can I get it? I saw this chair on the Anthro website and  ever since I have been dreaming of reupholstering my couch with it...

I have been looking and looking and all I found was this dress made from a duller version of it.

My friend is in Africa, maybe he will magically find it for me there? Hint Hint...

Tropical Bathroom Remodel!

The bathroom at my Dad's house is in a poor state and it has been for like 15 years. I have taken it upon myself to redecorate it. Hopefully, I can transform it. My vision is a sort of Art Deco Tropical theme. I've got the paint down, it's a wicked shade of pink. My wall paper and fixtures are supposed to arrive today, I can't wait! Here is the visualization of what I want to do. When I finish, I will put up before and after pictures.

My Barbie Dream House

In many ways I am stricken with Peter Pan Syndrome, but I am excited about one thing that comes with growing up, having my own house! I can only hope that I somehow have enough money to buy the one I want... Luckily dreams don't factor in monetary limitations, so dream I will! Here is a list of things I would like to have in, out, near and above my dream house.

This exact foyer!

White, vintage wrought iron patio furniture and stylish guests...

Lovely wall paper...

Vintage appliances...

A garden...

An electric car...

A Loquat tree...

A gorgeous kitchen...

Chickens in this coop...

Records and plants EVERYWHERE...

A treehouse...

A sky above...

And this bicycle-pony!

With Silver Bells and Cockle Shells...

And so my garden grows.

All I want to do lately is work in my garden. I wish I could just run out of my office right now, take off my stupid work clothes and put on my garden getup! I check my seedlings like 3 times a day. I don't even have them in the ground yet and I already want to plant more. Last month I built some raised garden beds for my yard. My plan is to build a frame around them with a shade screen so that I don't have to water 5 times a day just to keep my veggies alive. My yard is like the surface of Mars during the summer. Phase two of my garden plan is bees. This month I officially became a beekeeper. I am pretty obsessed with it and I hope that my garden explodes with all the new pollinators around. Anyway, with all the pieces coming together I realize I have forgotten about the most significant part of gardening plan- my garden outfit! Duh!

Before we get started, let me just say that I hope this is not what's growing in my garden! I am supposed to surf the crimson wave today, if you know what I mean, and I want everyone to say a little prayer for a favorable surf report.

Moving right along, here is a lovely way to spend the day in your garden. Check out those biodegradable pots! I wish I had thought of that, I could have made my own and found a use for paper grocery bags (I'm bad about bringing my own). Also, I love overalls. They really put me in the mood to work. I put them on and I just feel ready. I always steal my boyfriend's overalls. I used to wear them to the print studio to work on my art when I lived in Santa Cruz. It was great because they were already dirty and had patches, so I didn't have to worry about staining my clothes! Now I just wear them whenever I know I'm going to get dirty. I realized as of late, the only work I enjoy doing, is work which gets me dirty. Eff my office job. Everyone in here is so clean and they are all obsessed with germs. There are hand sanitizer dispensers mounted on the walls! When I was little I used to EAT dirt. Those were the days...

Hey Anthropologie, where do you get off selling flower print clogs for $148? I guess clogs are in now but these are glorified gardening shoes! They remind me of my second grade teacher, and yeah that was in the 90's.

Sometimes when I work in my garden I want to look like Edie from Grey Gardens. I want to tie a headscarf on, put on my duck booties and get to work like a babushka woman. I always think of Edie when I wear an apron. Aprons are so cute, I wish they went all the way around! But if I have learned anything from Edie it's, "Make it work!" Well, I gues I learned that from Tim Gunn but it is an Edie concept. I wonder if that is where he got his inspiration for the phrase. Anyway, what I am saying is that Edie would tie this apron around her head and make it look good. Or she would wear it as a top. The point is she would find a way and so can I. You can throw together random stuff, wear them creatively and look like a chic gardener. You probably don't even need to buy anything new!

One more thing, isn't this awesome!? This is a sculpture by Marcos Carerra. He made it from old garden tools. I love it. The wings even move. Check it out!

Nesting: Cute Stuff For Your Home

Dear blog readers... or rather... Dear Marnie (since I am pretty sure you are the only one who looks at this),

I have been feeling rather nesty lately, and by that I mean I have been getting the urge to buy a lot of useless but alluring crap. This makes almost no sense since I am currently living in my dad's house, in my childhood room, which my dad has painted 4 different shades of ugly from random cans of paint he found in the garage. Make no mistake when I say childhood room, all of the cool stuff that I accumulated from age 1-18 has been cleared out and stuffed into boxes so that my dad could rent out the room while I was at college. The only remaining trinket from the past is a very uncool Humpty-Dumpty lamp, which I hated even then. Especially because it has a musical element, which plays a very creepy and slow version of the accompanying song.

At any rate, I love the idea of decorating living spaces with that touch of child whimsy in mind.

White Rabbit Lamp from Sprout Home

I adore this glowing rabbit lamp. If I had a kid I would want this kind of lamp for their room. Who says children's furniture has to look like someone melted down a box of crayons to create it? I also maintain that this is a charming item for an adult's living space, this is the kind of childhood item that I would carry around with me well after the age of 16.

Incredible wall decal designs by Inke Heiland. What a cool idea? These sillouttes are made from vintage wallpaper. Love it! You can check out the online store here.

Butterflies from Etsy!

Nature is such a key element in childhood and nothing is more accesible or facinating than bugs! These butterflies are so beautiful and amazing, it's no wonder people frame them.

Sea of Sci-Fi Mug from Mod Cloth

Who doesn't love a girl weilding a ray gun?

Okay and let's not forget geodes. I don't think I even need to defend this one. I mean, geodes are just flat out magical.

Where else but Etsy?

I love these little guys! They remind me of an old cartoon featuring a very lovable little owl named Owl Jolson. Aside from that though,  I have a soft spot for owl figurines. I used to know a guy who filled his entire bathroom with owl statuettes and wall hangings and I have secretly wanted to do the same ever since.

Nothing says whimsy like floating orbs. Also, nothing says earthquake hazard like floating orbs but that is a risk I am willing to take. Just don't hang these babies over your bed. (I saw that Sprout Home has them for sale.)

Into the Foliage Wallpaper from Anthropologie

Anthro's prices may make you want to DIE, but some things are worth waiting for and I am fairly certain that this will go onsale someday and when it does it will be at half the original price.
