Anne of Green Gables Winter Look

I have another Green Gables post for you all today. A lot of the Anne clothes I have put up have a Spring/Summer feel to them so you may be wondering how to get the Green Gables look in the Winter and Fall. Luckily, I have the answer! Vintage!

If you were just going to get one 'Anne' item for winter you should definitely make it a coat. When looking for an Anne style coat you should look for a long coat with a fitted waist and flared bottom. If you are lucky, you will find one that has puff sleeves, too! I recommend you select a coat that is a neutral color like brown, black, navy, gray, dark green or a deep red. Stay away from bright colors. The above is a great example.

In colder weather switch your hat choices from straw flat brims to berets. You can knit your own like this blogger did or you can search Etsy and your local thrift. I do have a feeling berets are coming back in style though so maybe next Fall you will be able to pop into JCrew and buy one.

You may be wondering about wearing pants for your Green Gables look. On this subject I will say that whenever possible you should wear a long wool skirt and boots instead but for an updated Anne look I think you can wear a pair of skinny jeans as long as you pair it with a really over the top Victorian blouse and some lace up booties. Here's a good one from Free People but there are tons of vintage options out there.

Another great look for cold weather Anne style is knits. Look for neutral knits with buttons down the front. Here's a good one! This goes along with the whole Grandma chic element in the Green Gables look. Pair with midi skirts, tailored blouses and boots! I hope this helps those of you in cold weather on your quest to get the Anne look!

Green Gables Style Update

My Anne of Green Gables style post continues to be one of my most popular posts despite the fact that I wrote it last year so I thought I'd do a little follow up on it and give you some new Anne looks and tips! I've also started a pinboard just for you readers who can't get enough and I'll update it with new Anne finds when I come across them and give you tips on how to style them in the description.

Lucky for those of you trying to rock this style there are still plenty of trends that fit into the Green Gables category this year. My favorite of which is definitely lace-up boots! Check out these ones from Ruche. They are a great Anne shoe because you could wear them in the fall with plaid wool skirts and blazers or in the winter with jeans and Victorian blouses or in the spring and summer with a lacey white dress!

Check out this adorable blouse from To Be Adored! It's a great top for early Spring and you could wear it with tailored shorts or a midi skirt then pair it with a straw hat and oxfords. I love the color, too. 

Here's a super cute pair of socks that would add that extra touch to an spring Anne look. There's lots of great Anne pieces at Free People. 

I'm also lovin' this high-collar dress from Nasty Gal. You could wear it with lace-up booties or oxfords. Layer it with a blazer and tights for cooler weather or just throw on your flat brim straw hat and stroll out into the warm sunlight. 

JCrew is my go to spot for good blazers. It's also a good place to find wool or cotton ties. This is a classic Anne blazer in tweed!

For a bit of an updated Anne look, watch for cut-out oxfords this Spring. They will look great with summer dresses or shorts. You can add some flower print socks for a little extra flare. 

Don't worry, I didn't forget about the plaid! Some Anne items can be hard to find so don't forget about vintage. There's no shortage of plaid skirts, tailored vests, or prairie revival from the 70's so be sure to check your local thrift stores and Etsy. Vintage is probably the best route for Anne hats as well. Drugstore Digs

Hello Z-land! Sorry I have been a naughty blogger lately but I do have a quick bit to share today.

I saw this little feature over at Refinery 29 on must have drugstore items by popular bloggers and thought it was interesting. You can click on the link to check it out. I'm definitely a fan of the St. Ives Apricot scrub but my zombie drugstore dig for you guys (even though I am not a popular blogger- ha!) is Revlon Matte Lipstick in the shade of 'Really Red'.

I read that Mad Men's head makeup artist loves this shade and I ran out and bought one. It's such a great Hollywood red. I like it even better than what Mac has to offer! It's definitely my go-to red lipstick. It goes on smooth, has lasting power, works great as a stain and it's my perfect shade! I pair it with Mac's cherry lip pencil. Think you can't wear red?

It's Friday, I'm In Love!

Oh, it's Friday again and I am still not well. I am feeling a bit like this sea monster looking in on the lives of others while I sit on the side lines waiting to be healthy. 

I've been trying to make it through the week and also do something creative or productive to keep my will power going. This week I drew a rough draft of  a logo/t-shirt design for a  bike shop that will be opening up soon called 'Surf Monkey'. I'm hoping it goes somewhere but if not it was fun to work on. I also went to a volunteer meeting for a non-profit called San Diego Victory Gardens. They teach people how to grow their own veggie gardens by actually going to their homes and building/designing their garden with them! Isn't that cool? I can't wait to get involved. This weekend I'm going to hang out with my chickens and try to get some exercise and sunshine. I'm also going to try acupuncture for the first time today. Cross your fingers that it works for me!

The Girl With 7 Horses

Check out this awesome photo project by Ulrika Kestere. It's based on a fairy tail about a girl's laundry blowing away in a storm and taking with it the girl's 7 invisible horses. I like the photos, very magical. This shoot remind me of an art project I did while I was in school. I made an owl on the ground out of my clothes. If only I had thought to do a photo shoot!

I stumbled upon a new Etsy fav this weekend. Fever Few is a little gold mind or precious art items. I love that her inventory is so varied and is always changing. The seller also hails from Montreal (home town of my mother's)! Don't you love her girly, animal-centric style? My favorite are the scarves.
