Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween everyone! I'm kind of loving this Halloween on a Monday thing because as it turns out, it just means you get to have Halloween Th-M! I started off my Halloween weekend with a costumed kick ball game on Thursday, followed by costumed Critical Mass on Friday, followed by house parties on Saturday and more of the same on Sunday... only I couldn't bring myself to party anymore on Sunday especially since I had to get up and come to work today so, I just watched horror movies instead. Here I am in my Friday costume.

On Saturday I went as Maid Marian from Men In Tights (complete with chastity belt)!

I went around unabashedly flashing people my chastity belt all night and saying "I'm sooo happ-eh!"

Sorry these pictures aren't the best qual. What was your costume?

50 Clueless Outfits

Aside from this video just being a fun watch, it might also help some of you costume-less readers out there. I have always wanted to be Cher for Halloween...

So many rad outfits.

Twin Peaks Costumes!

Halloween events are drawing near and if you are like me, you just couldn't make up your mind and now here you are 4 days 'til the first of several costume parties and you still aren't ready! Well, just for you, I have come up with a Twin Peaks costume guide! It's true, that not everyone will get your costume because not everyone has seen Twin Peaks but it will be worth it when you come across another TP fan and they gush over how great your costume is.

There are many zany characters in Twin Peaks but probably one of the best costume-wise is the Log Lady. You will need a knit, earthy colored sweater, red glasses and a log! Of course there are other items (like that neck pin she has on) that will take your costume above and beyond but the sweater, glasses and log are the essentials. To get yourself in character, I recommend brushing up on your Log Lady-isms so you can recite her wisdom all night long. And don't forget to get snippy with people when they ask about your log!

Laura Palmer wrapped in plastic is pretty hard to pull off but if you are up for it, it is also probably the one that requires the least planning. All you need is a plastic sheet (plastic paint drops look best), some duck tape and makeup. A lot of people over-do the makeup, so take a good look at this picture because there's really no need to paint your face white and your lips bright purple. Her lips are a light pearly purple and she actually has a bit of red/brown shadow on her lids. I would go for subtlety and add some gold leaf to your face on top of that. You can also put a bunch of hair gel in to achieve the wet look. If you want to get complicated you could try making a wire frame to hold the plastic in a sort of halo around your head.

Who doesn't want to be Agent Cooper for the night? You will need a white dress shirt, tie, slacks, a trench coat and some pomade. You can also just go in a suit (sans the trench coat) but I think the trench coat is more exciting. You may also want to carry around a cup of coffee (so you can rave about it) and/or a tape recorder (so you can break into self reflection at any moment). Don't forget to give people the thumbs up!

Another excellent costume option is Nadim. There are actually TWO ways to dress as Nadim. You can go in a red and white cheer-leading outfit or a pink prom dress. Both will require an eye patch and both sound equally fun! A friend of mine went in the cheer leading outfit a few years ago and she cut out 'Twin Peaks' in felt and glued it on the front- it looked great. Don't forget to make use of your super-human strength!

Sometimes I wish I were an middle aged man just so I can be a decent Dr. Jacoby for Halloween. He has some of the best outfits on the show! You can really get creative with picking out what to wear but I think the standard is a Hawaiian shirt. Don't be afraid to think outside the box and go with another outfit though. I love his atlas shirt and sweater vest combo shown above. No matter what you wear though, you will need his classic red and blue 3D glasses. These are hard to find so I recommend buying some similar frames and then replacing the lenses with colored cellophane. Good Luck!

Girl Crush: Christina Hendricks

Sometimes it's just one of those days and the only thing that can make you feel better is looking at pictures of a seriously hot woman. Does that make me a lesbian? I'm not sure but I'm pretty sure I'd play for the other team if I could get with bombshell Christina Hendricks! Lezzy thoughts aside, I'm mostly excited about having a full figured woman in the spotlight again. It really is a nice change of pace.

I'm sure she must get tired of people talking about her body so I wanted to add that Christina is definitely a kindred spirit. I read that she's a natural blonde but started dying her hair at the age of 10 after reading Anne of Green Gables!

Etsy Fav: Seaworthy

I've been really liking this geometric jewelry trend. It's true I don't really wear jewelry but I still admire it on others. I especially like Seaworthy's Art Deco inspired pieces. I'm kind of obsessed with Art Deco, I wish they'd start making buildings like that again.

A Case of the Mondays

My weekend felt so short. I can't believe I have to wait another 5 days to get there again. This made me feel better though:

Meadham Kirchhoff S/S12

Did you guys see this totally bonkers collection? You really have to watch the video versus looking at the pictures because it just cannot be captured in stills.

I did enjoy looking at these behind the scene snaps by Rachel Hardwick though.

Very Harajuku. My favororite was this paper-cut out style dress.

I really don't know how people have the patience to do their nails so elaborately all the time. I can barely be bothered to put a single color on. I do like to paint my toes though. Maybe because it lasts way longer.

Halloween Costumes for the Guys

Good morning Zomblets!

Since only 2 of you entered the contest (how sad) I declare you both winners and will be sending you each a copy of my Halloween mix! Thank you PuppyLovePrincess and Lilja! You both have excellent taste in Halloween songs and hopefully I can include some songs you don't already know in my mix. To receive your prize please send your address to hilary.a.kearney{@}gmail.com. Now, on with my regularly scheduled post!

***********************************************************************

As promised here are some ideas for guy's costumes... of course some of these make excellent costumes period (regardless of gender).

Fantastic Mr. Fox! You will need a corduroy suit, yellow polo, and something that will make you look like a fox. You could go with a mask (the best would be if you made it yourself using fur material) or something like this hat and possibly one of those animal snouts

Old timey circus strong man! This is a great one if you have a mustache or a lot of muscles but you don't have to have either. You will need a mustache though be it painted or felt. Then you get to choose from a couple of different outfits. There's the stripped tank top, the leopard print toga, or the straight up vintage undies. Finally, you get to make a giant barbell! The easiest way is probably paper machete.

King Tut! This one isn't really a costume you can thrift. Of course you can buy a lame pre-fab costume but the best way is DIY! Grab a white sheet and tie it into a sort of skirt (it can be knee length or full length). You'll need some stripped fabric for your headdress, throw on some eyeliner and voila! You could also paint yourself gold, which I think would be rad. You could carry a staff, wear jewelry, add that strange long goatee he has but as long as you have the headdress down and the eyeliner, you will be set!

Have a little fun and go as Hunter S. Thompson. You get to rant about Nixon and walk around with a cigarette holder in your mouth all night (don't forget the cigarette). Plus, you get to rock the classic floppy hat and Hawaiian shirt combo with aviators, shorts and calf-high white socks. You could even lug around an old skool type writer!

I really can't think of a better costume than Pauly Shore. You get to say ridiculous things AND dress like a freak. There are many ways to dress like Pauly but they should all include a head scarf and some form of vintage jeans. He also likes to rock vests, tight long sleeve shirts, tie-dye, fishnet shirts, bell bottoms, the color purple and cut-offs. Wheeze the ju-uice!

Why not go high-brow and dress as Vincent van Gogh? You will need facepaint, an ace bandage, optional fake blood, acrylic paint and a cheap suit. The idea is you paint your face as if it were a Van Gogh painting (with strong brush strokes) and then you do the same to your suit. Top it off by trying a bandage around your head to cover your missing ear. You could even carry around a prosthetic ear in a box and offer it to girls you meet at the party.

Slam dunk this Halloween and go as Teen Wolf! You will need a werewolf nose, brown face paint, and lots of fur! You will also need a yellow basketball jersey, matching short shorts, iron on computer transfer paper, nude colored leggings or nylons, a yellow headband, tube socks, sunglasses, fangs, werewolf hands and a basketball. Use the iron on paper to write "Beavers" and the number 42 on your jersey. Or you could also wear a Letterman jacket and vintage jeans that way you wont have to glue hair to your limbs. I recommend buying a couple of cheap long wigs (only one if you are going with outfit #2). For your head you can cut it to the right length and use the leftovers to make your hair line lower and give yourself a matching beard- check out how this guy did it. Use Spirit gum to glue the hairs to your face. For your arms and legs use nylons and then cut the hair from your second wig and glue it to the nylons. Then you basically just act like you are the coolest person at the party- and of course, in this costume, you will be!
