Vintage Halloween Costumes

It's about to be September and so for my fellow lovers of Halloween that means it is time to start planning your costume! It's true we are all already grade A zombies but I have come up with some alternatives for this year. All of which can easily be achieved with awesome vintage finds instead of lame store bought versions or the tedious hand-made route. When you make your costume up out of vintage clothes even typical costumes can be much more awesome. So, I will start with some classics.

With a little pinafore this would be the perfect Alice dress.

Getting a little more creative... how about Nancy Drew? This one is fun because you get come up with your own preppy 60's outfit (collared shirts/dresses, plaid, little sweaters, socks) instead of looking for specific pieces. Plus, you get do a 1960's hair-do! Then add some oxfords, a magnifying glass, a flashlight and notebook and you are ready to pester everyone at the party with investigative questions!

Grab yourself a vintage tennis dress and voila- Margot Tenenbaum! Then you'll need a wig or a haircut, a barrette, some eyeliner, a fur coat and a wooden finger.

Speaking of vintage tennis dresses, why not get really literary and go as Jordan Baker from the Great Gatsby?  Add short hair, thin eyebrows, a vintage tennis racket and a haughty/bored attitude.

Girl Crush: Christina Ricci

Christina Ricci is like the girl crush of my childhood. I haven't seen her too much lately but I just heard she is going to be on a new TV show. It's going to be "Mad Men at 30, 000 feet", apparently. Only it stars Ricci as a 1960's stewardess. I have my doubts about the show but it's still nice to see Ricci getting some action. She was such an awesome child actress. I loved her as Wednesday Addams, as the tom- girl in Now and Then, as the angsty teen in Casper. I even loved her bleach blonde in Sleepy Hollow. She's pretty rad.

Valentino Couture Fall 2011

9am already, I was just in the middle of a dream. I was wearing Valentino by a crystal blue  Italian stream....

It's Friday I'm In Love!

Happy Friday! I'm excited to not have any major plans this weekend. I'm going to play 'personal shopper' for one of my friends who has some weddings to go to and then try to make some progress on the chicken coop I am building. The weather is gorgeous. It's supposed to be sunny and 85 all weekend. Not to rub it in for those of you on the east coast... or if there are any Texans out there melting away in the heat. Yikes!

I have another clothing collection to share with you. This one is inspired by witches. It's kind of a throwback to the 90's and it definitely makes me think of 'The Craft'. I'm kind of in love with this look but it doesn't really go with the other styles I own.

Peter, Peter Pumpkin Eater

I am back from my long weekend and delighted to find that it is already Wednesday! I hope everyone is having a good week, here's some pretty clothes to help you along. It's Peter Jensen's A/W 2011! I love the colors and the shapes in this collection because it has just a touch of whimsy and it makes me think of story book illustrations. 

 

Too cute. I love the first coat, it looks so comforting and warm. I'm also digging the plaid cape with the asymmetrical collar and of course, the bored and mischievousness looking model.  

It's Friday I'm In Love!

Once again, I'm so glad its Friday. I'm even taking a long weekend to go camping on the beach so I wont be back until Wednesday! I can't wait to spend my whole day on the beach and my night by the campfire. 

Anyone else have exciting plans?

Opening Ceremony

Have you seen the new Opening Ceremony yet? One of their dresses reminds me of that awesome vintage dress Thrifted & Modern had for sale. Also, this is an awesome collection and it's photographed really well. Check it.
